USS Midway Aircraft Carrier
USS Midway – A City at Sea She holds the distinction of being the first ship too large to use the Panama Canal, but that is the least of her honors. The U.S.S. Midway and her crews have been in harm’s way from Vietnam to Operation Desert Storm. She is a testament to the valor and steadfastness of the sailors of the United States Navy.
Attractions The carrier houses 60 exhibits and a self-guided tour allows visitors to proceed at their own pace. There are flight simulators, music videos, short films, climb-aboard aircraft, interactive exhibits and the aptly titled “Ejection Seat Theater.” There is fun for the adventuresome as well as for the history buff. In addition, docents will educate you about the 27 meticulously restored aircraft that call the Midway home. Also, don’t miss the Island Tour. That’s the superstructure above the flight deck and the docents are eager to tell you all they know.
