George’s At the Cove

George’s at the Cove is one of San Diego’s top dining spots for its modern California flavors and stunning views. Chef Trey George’s is three eateries in one La Jolla location, George’s California Modern (downstairs), George’s Bar (middle level) and Ocean Terrace & Bar (top floor). All offer ocean views. Chef Trey Foshee presides over California Modern, where he has put his own spin on the San Diego seafood staple of fish tacos. His dish was featured last year on the Food Network’s “The Best Thing I Ever Ate.”

Regulars to this Green Restaurant certified eatery recommend the bean soup, as well as the numerous sustainable seafood options. Sunset dinner and drinks upstairs is a date-night favorite but be sure to bring a jacket as the terrace gets chilly. George’s takes great pride in mixologist Frankie Thaheld’s unique seasonal beverage recipes with distinctive names such as “Beets Me” and “Vernal Equinox.” The bar is also celebrated for its house infused vodkas as well as its line of “skinny” or low-calorie libations which often include seasonal fresh fruit ingredients.
Prices are a bit lower at Ocean Terrace and George’s Bar, which share the same bistro menu, focusing on soups, pasta, and salads for lunch and modern American cuisine for dinner. Walk-ins are always welcome at George’s Bar.
